Default Pittsburgh problem

My lock former occasionally crushes the Pittsburgh seam so that it makes it difficult to get the fold into the groove?! It does it intermittently which is strange? Do I need to tighten or loosen the bolts on top? Any help much appreciated

Every material will go through it differently to a degree. You wouldn't run painted steel through as the same settings as galvanized for the same 'standard thickness' because the base materials aren't always the same. I always found your import painted steels have more carbon in them and spring back a little more than the base steel used on galvanized. But rather than adjust the machine each time we'd just get the out a screw driver and insert it into the seam, tap it on the side of the inserted tip down the seam to open it up. Took literally ten seconds to open up ten feet of material on the bench. YMMV

Default Pitts. adjustment

Make sure the thin "slitter" wheel at the exit end of the machine is not cracked off and is whole. Basically ,if you have a 20ga. capacity pittsburg machine that you usually use day to day for 26 or 24 gauge,you should loosen it for running 22 gauge or 20 gauge. run small test pieces through until it is set properly.

>Most pitts. type machines have crowned washers under the tightening nuts to facilitate some give or flex tolerance to the system. this is good for about 2 gauges(say 24 & 26ga.). Moving to 22 or 20 gauge usually requires the adjustment.
