Default Tablet PC anyone?

Hey guys- My boss just hooked me up with a used LE1700 Tablet PC. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience using them? I have made some pretty useful journal templates with isometric graph sheets, for quick jobsite sketches. I just put them in a Dropbox folder, and they are on my desktop before I get back to the office. I can also email them directly to our Fabshop, so any custom fittings can be fabricated without me coming back and droping off the old cardboard chunk... For those who don't know what an LE1700 is (I never saw one either) think ipad, running XP Pro, but you have to use a special pen and not your fingertip to enter data.
If anyone is using them, or the ipads for similar applications, I would love to hear your thoughts. Right now, we are going to give them to all of our service techs to start, but hopefully the installers will have them in their trucks by the fall of 2011.

Any chance of sharing the templates and graph sheets?

I have a HP tablet, and it chews up the batteries. It doesn't have a transflective screen, so it is just about impossible to view outdoors. It does have a touchscreen *and* a digitizer pen.

What is the Dropbox Folder?

Drop box is a way to share files between multiple computers, similar to using the "briefcase" folder in XP. the main difference is, it automatically updates as soon as you connect to the internet. It is a free download, but the space is somewhat limited. The nice feature, is it works with multiple operating systems, i.e. windows, droid, apple, etc. you can also create shared folders between users, or even people who don't have it. (sorry if i sound like I'm pushing it). I will remove my companies logo from the templates and get you the copies

Thanks.

The only input I can offer for a tablet is to make sure you can see it outdoors. If you are moving productivity to a laptop, being able to use it in the van when the sun is out is a plus.

They are spendy, but I would look at the "rugged" laptop styles if this is a long term move.

I can do a lot on my phone screen, but there is no getting around the fact that it is too darn small for serious work.

The backlit keyboards that are coming out are nice.

I've been looking into something like this. I wish they were good enough to run CAD programs. The more the industry gets into BIM projects the more it requires us to go out on site and show models of the drawings that are getting created at the shop. Would be great for conflict resolution in the field also.
