Default Candle Lantern

I have some copper that I've been saving for some tinsmith. (or coppersmith) projects and I'd like to make a candle lantern. Can anyone give me some basic dimensions (LxWxH). I've never been too good at coming up with the proportions of these type items so they don't look too out of proportion. Also, what happened to the section of the forum that had sheet metal projects? I think I remember a camp stove, barn star and some other things, but I haven't been able to find the site. Thanks. John

We're working on getting all those files back in the library soon. There was a problem with you the new site and old post nuke stuff.

I've made a few and my base is 4x4 with 8 inch height. The top is attached with wire because the solder will melt if you put it right over the flame. You have to have vents down low and up high or it won't burn right.

Tnsam and metalmechanic, thanks for your offers, but I can't seem to access your PM or e-mail. Its probably my lack of computer savvy. Is there some other way to contact you or maybe someone knows what I'm doing wrong. John

I'll just see if I can find the book i took my inspiration from. I checked it out at the local library. Shaker style crafts or something like that.

I'm sorry I haven't been available. For those that asked I will get a full description of the lantern so you can make similar plans.

Default candle lantern

Hey tinnerjohn,
Here is a pic of a copper lantern that I made recently for a retirement gift for my long time friend.
With it's wire edging ,it might be too elaborate for your needs, but maybe you can use the proportions or design for some ideas.

being retired myself,I've got plenty of time to design and tinker with stuff like this.

if you need some actual dimensions or any other help,I'd be glad to help.

Thanks guys. I printed the pics you posted and am drawing up some plans. The pictures helped give me a sense of scale. Those are some really nice work you can be proud of. John
